Our take

The cooler section is insulated, not a cool box. With a couple of ice packs it will keep a shop of chilled food safe for something like two to four hours in mild weather, which covers the drive home and a couple of errands, and nothing like a day at the beach in summer. Understood that way it earns its place, because the alternative is a separate cool bag rolling around the boot. The leakproof lining is the part that actually matters, since it means a burst carton stays in one compartment.
