Our take

Fitting this to a bare roof means threading the included hooks into your door frames, and that is the part to think about before buying. The hooks sit against the door seal; on a long trip in heat they can mark the rubber, and you cannot open a hooked door without unhooking first, so every fuel stop becomes a small ritual. On a car that already has crossbars none of that applies and it is a lot of space for the money. Expect a drumming noise above roughly 60 mph and a real fuel economy hit.

Best for: Cars that already have roof rails or crossbars fitted

What works

  • 21 cubic feet is genuinely large
  • Cheap for the volume
  • Folds away small when not in use

What doesn't

  • Door hooks press against door seals
  • Doors blocked while the bag is fitted
  • Drums audibly at highway speed
