The strictest category on the site, and the one where a product review is worth the least.

Child restraints are regulated. A car seat sold in the US meets FMVSS 213 or it is not legal to sell — so no accessory review can tell you a seat is “safe”, only whether it fits your car and your child. Anything that sits between a child and the harness, or between a seat and the vehicle seat, is not covered by that testing at all. For pets, the two things that separate a real barrier from a blanket are anchoring and whether the sides are open where the airbags deploy.
